Protesting Valentines Day

There are many groups of people, religious or otherwise, who protest the celebration of Valentines Day in India.  It seems it is becoming increasingly popular with the younger crowd in the larger cities to embrace this "western" holiday and the protesters threaten violence and disruption to get their point across that they don't want India culture diluted with western ways.  I hear ya! I know a Tumblr poster (no links to her site, she's already way too infamous for her own ego!) who gets bent out of shape if someone posts a photo of a non-Indian person with a bindi!! - tags it "cultural appropriation" and goes on a rant about it.

Well, this is definitely cultural appropriation!!

Some protesters registered their disdain for the imported holiday with a dog marriage!!  I think most young people who celebrate in "non-western" countries,  must not realize that it is a Christian Celebration.  So why not protest that it is a Christian holiday infiltrating a largely Hindu population? And the whole idea about love - well,  in a country where 90% of the marriages are arranged.... as Tina Tuner said..."What's love got to do with it?" Seriously!?!?

What they should be protesting is that emerging middle class is getting hoodwinked into the proper ways of conspicuous consumption.  I don't think a marriage between two dogs really does the trick.

Bow-wow...I now pronounce you husband and wife...you may kiss the bitch.
